Moving from Trauma Informed to Trauma Resourced

One of the biggest areas of need identified by Richmond's church leaders is for their staff and members to be equipped to care for those in our community who have experienced trauma.

In response, For Richmond, in partnership with Virginia's Kids Belong, Clover Hill Church and others, will be hosting a trauma training on Saturday, October 26th from 9 a.m. - 3 p.m. to help Richmond's churches become trauma informed and trauma resourced. The training will take place at U-Turn Sports.

A general session based in the Trust-Based Relational Intervention method (TBRI) will be followed by specialized tracks for:

• Current and potential foster, kinship and adoptive parents who have not had an introduction to TBRI as well as those wishing to support these families

• Pastors, children's and youth ministry leaders, and church staff and volunteers

• Teachers, staff, and volunteers working in schools

Your registration of $25 includes lunch.

Personal Consultations

We are offering 15 minute personal consultations on a first come, first serve basis during lunch with trauma trained professionals. When you register, you will be able to request your session.

Senior Pastor Gathering

Senior level pastors are invited to have lunch with their peers to discuss the morning's content and interact with pastors whose churches have already implemented trauma-informed practices. When you register, please indicate your interest in participating.

Trauma 101: Olivya Wilson, Parent Engagement Coordinator, Greater Richmond SCAN (Stop Child Abuse Now)

Olivya Wilson is the Trauma Informed Parent Engagement Coordinator for Stop Child Abuse Now (SCAN). In this role, she works with a team to provide an innovative trauma-informed approach within eleven of Richmond’s most challenging schools by embedding training, parent support, and mental health counseling in order to help young people and their families build resiliency. Olivya has a wealth of experience from working in various roles including intensive in-home counselor, mental health skill builder, and hospice care worker. She also is very involved in community engagement work through her church and the Greater Richmond Trauma Informed Community Network. Olivya holds a Masters Degree in Social Work from Virginia Commonwealth University, is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, and recently earned her Masters Degree in Divinity from Virginia Union University’s Samuel DeWitt Proctor School of Theology.

Introduction to Trust-Based Relational Intervention & Parent Track Facilitator: Angie Grant, Family Resource Director, Clover Hill Church

Angie, alongside her husband, has pastored Clover Hill Assembly of God in Midlothian, Virginia for the last 22 years. Angie serves on staff as the Family Resource Director as well as the Executive Director of Clover Hill Christian Academy. She also plays an active role as Advocate for The Forgotten Initiative, an organization that mobilizes the body of Christ to be involved in orphan care through local foster systems. She is a certified Empowered to Connect Parent Trainer. This role helps her breathe life into parents who are parenting kids from hard places. She finds great joy in sharing practical tools that promote healing. As a foster and adoptive parent herself, she understands the challenges that families face on a daily basis. By sharing her own experiences, she will leave participates strengthened and hopeful.

School Track Facilitator: Leanne Lytle, Director of City and School Partnership, United Way of Greater Richmond and Petersburg

Leanne is passionate about supporting students at their deepest level of felt need and has served in various education support roles including reading interventionist, Student Life and Service Learning Coordinator, program evaluator, school-based mentoring professional and now, Director of the Petersburg City + Schools Partnership where she supports broad scale systems level change for students in the City of Petersburg, VA. She holds a Masters of Education from Vanderbilt University's Peabody College of Education where she studied child development, intervention, prevention and organizational integrity in the context of Poverty. Leanne's own story of resilience includes a long walk through the residue of Hurricane Katrina as well as sitting in assorted formidable transitional situations with churches. Leanne is grateful wife to Christopher, ardent Momma to Isabella and frazzled Dog-mom to Lucy and Ollie.

Church Track Facilitator: Brandy Capehart, Director of Kids, Clover Hill Church Moseley Campus

Brandy Capehart serves on staff at Clover Hill Church in Chesterfield, Virginia as Director of Kids at their Mosley Campus. She lives, eats and breathes kids! Her heart is especially drawn to kids from hard places. She is passionate about empowering teams who work with this population and their families to make an impact and aid in their healing. She brings first-hand knowledge of how to meet kids where they are using Trust Based Relational Intervention strategies in their kids environment. Brandy will also be joined by several panelists, including those who serve middle and high school students, and senior pastors who will address who trauma informed practices can be integrated into church culture.
