Our friends in the Office of Engagement at Richmond Public Schools are inviting churches to take part in RPS Shines 2019, the second annual summer effort to beautify schools before students return in the fall.

Specifically, they are interested in churches engaging with them on Beautification Days, in which volunteers work to beautify school buildings and grounds by painting walls, organizing libraries, picking up trash, weeding gardens, and more. They are seeking a partner organization to serve as a volunteer sponsor for each of the 46 schools in the district. If your church is interested in learning more about this, please contact Will Keenan, RPS Volunteer Engagement Specialist at wkeenan.contractor@rvaschools.net and copy Anna Shenk at For Richmond so we can keep track of participating churches: anna@forrichmond.org.

Additionally, if anyone would like to sign up individually, you can click here to volunteer at the school of your choice, or here to donate supplies or funds. RPS is particularly in need of volunteers at Southampton Elementary School (Saturday, July 13th from 8am-11am) and Barack Obama Elementary School (Saturday, July 13th from 1-4pm).

Finally, there are two other ways in which partners can engage on this summer's projects:

Bathroom Blitz - Volunteers with expertise in plumbing, electrical work, painting, and deep cleaning are needed to help us continue the work of upgrading our school bathrooms. Click here to volunteer your time for one of these crucial projects, or here to donate supplies or funds, and email Grady Hart, RPS Community Partnerships Coordinator, to learn more about becoming a volunteer sponsor of a Bathroom Blitz project: GHart@rvaschools.net

Community Murals - Led by local artists and neighborhood leaders, community members will help create beautiful murals for our schools that celebrate Richmond's history and diversity. Click here to donate supplies or funds, and email Grady Hart, RPS Community Partnerships Coordinator, to learn more about supporting a Community Mural: Ghart@rvaschools.net.
